About Umicore Battery Materials in Canada

Umicore is preparing to build a battery materials production plant in Loyalist Township, Ontario - the first of its kind in North America. The cutting-edge facility will be a critical part of Canada’s electric vehicle (EV) supply chain. Throughout the design, construction, and operation of the plant, Umicore will be seeking a variety of professionals who share our passion for innovation and sustainability.

 

What you will be doing

For this new site, we are looking for a Mechanical Engineer, reporting to the Mechanical Engineering Manager. In this role you will bring a high degree of specialized knowledge and experience to the organization supporting the project, in developing and managing technical standards and recommendations in support of the construction and installation of facilities in their field of specialization and to liaise with contractors to successfully implement new assets and facilities until commissioning and/or handover, in line with the expectations of the stakeholders. 

 

Responsibilities

  • Guarantees the execution of work within the projects Mechanical scope, planning and budget for your field of responsibility 
  • Assures that the technical Mechanical requirements of the project are met 
  • Timely detects roadblocks and take corrective action to overcome them 
  • Reports progress of the project to the project manager 
  • Manages risk, change of scope and deviations of the work assigned to your team members 
  • Ensures that project documents are complete and in accordance with procedures and timelines 
  • Controls costs during execution of work assigned to its team 
  • Works with other specialized teams, integrating the work with other specialties into the final project solution, assuring that timelines are met 
  • Proposes improvements (procedures, organizational, new technologies, capex, productivity) as appropriate 
  • Carries out assigned tasks and duties in a safe manner, in accordance with instructions, and to comply with environmental, health & safety rules/procedures, regulations and codes of practice. 
  • Performs or supports commissioning of the equipment before handing over to the Process team and supports process team during the internal qualification 

 

Who we are looking for

  • You have a Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering
  • Technical experience in the execution of Mechanical engineering projects
  • Relevant experience (>2 years) and understanding in the execution of industrial installations 
  • Knowledge of EHS standards, industry good practices and legal requirements applicable to the specialty of focus 
  • Strong communication skills, and ability work work in matrix organizations
  • Computer literate with good working knowledge of MS Office package 
  • Must have the Knowledge, Experience and Skills to conduct their tasks in accordance with the rules and procedures set down by the Mechanical Manager. 
  • Strong collaborative and interpersonal skills
